In Buscoldo, in Via Bertani, a normal daily passage revealed something unexpected. In mid-February 2025, a sudden collapse of the road surface forced the affected section to be closed to traffic. A quick decision, dictated by the absolute priority: ensuring people's safety.
Behind that failure, much more was hidden.
Under the asphalt, a structure built almost a century ago was once again making itself heard. It is the Lodolo canal, which silently crosses the urban fabric of Buscoldo: a watercourse once under the open air, then manned in the 1930s to make room for the development of the country. A hidden infrastructure, forgotten by time, but which has always accompanied the daily life of the community.
The Municipality of Curtatone intervened promptly, hiring a company for an in-depth inspection and then entrusting the management of the intervention to the Consortium for the Reclamation of the Territories of Mincio. The excavation and verification work highlighted the need for a more extensive action: it was decided to secure a stretch of about 15 meters, intervening with new structural works and creating the necessary connections to integrate the renovated part with the existing one.
During the work, hidden elements emerged under the road surface that tell how much the infrastructural history of a country can re-emerge, revealing the importance of careful maintenance and a forward-looking vision.
The delicacy of the context required teamwork between bodies, technicians, designers and specialized workers, to face each step with the utmost care and competence.
This was not just a technical intervention.
It was an act of responsibility.
