Buscoldo
Buscoldo
Buscoldo is a lively hamlet in the town of Curtatone, immersed in the green Mantuan plain. With its approximately 2,300 inhabitants, it is the beating heart of the territory, rich in history and tradition. Its roots go back to ancient times, as evidenced by Neolithic and Roman finds found nearby. The village developed around the 'castrum Buscoldi', an ancient castle that was part of a complex medieval defensive system known as 'Serraglio'. Buscoldo is a place where past and present coexist harmoniously, offering an authentic and welcoming atmosphere. Its parish church dedicated to Saint Mark the Evangelist, with the beautiful baroque decorations of the Swiss plasterer Giovanni Battista Staffieri, is the symbol of its religious and cultural identity.

Places of interest

  • for trade and borders.
  • Balconcelli: an area characterized by three historic courtyards, kept together to preserve the property under the Sardinian-Italian Kingdom, an example of how tradition and pragmatism have been intertwined in local history.
  • Corte La Stanga: located at the entrance to Buscoldo, it takes its name from the “stanga” — the barrier that marked the border, a tangible symbol of a past marked by territorial and identity divisions.
  • Corte Catena (Ronchi): this town is located in a natural border area, where the Senga and Corbolo waterways drew a natural border between territories, separating and at the same time uniting Buscoldo with its surroundings.
