The streets of Curtatone and Borgo Virgilio were invaded by the enthusiasm and determination of more than 300 athletes, both professionals and amateurs, who participated in the 3rd edition of the Battle Marathon. A day that saw runners of all ages compete, engaged in three competitive distances that paid homage not only to sport, but also to the history that has marked our territory.
The Marathon, over the classic distance of 42.195 km, was the beating heart of the event. But not only that: there were also the Half Marathon and the 10 km Country Marathon, for those who wanted to test themselves on shorter but equally intense distances. Every race, every step, has crossed landscapes that tell the heroic deeds of the Battle of Curtatone and Montanara, a crucial episode of the First Italian War of Independence. The participants not only ran, but they also witnessed a journey through time, crossing the places they saw fighting for the freedom of Italy.
The winner of the Battle Marathon was Mirko Panicali, who stopped the clock at 3h3'27”, giving strong emotions and another memorable chapter in the history of the event.
The course, which took place in a unique and suggestive environment, allowed athletes to immerse themselves in the historic places of the battle of 1848, an event that saw the courage of young Pisan university students against the advance of the Austro-Hungarian troops. A unique opportunity to combine sport and historical memory, and to demonstrate how solidarity and determination can unite people, just as happened in those years of struggle for freedom.
In addition to the competitions, the event also saw the participation of Corri Curtatone Corri, a race open to everyone, which attracted many fans and families, giving a moment of celebration and participation.
The safety of the event, which saw the collaboration with the Local Police, guaranteed the smooth running of the races, with the temporary closure of the road network and the suspension of traffic along the way.
But what really made this day special was its social and cultural value. The Battle Marathon is not just a sporting event, but an opportunity for the community to come together, to celebrate together our history and our future. It is an event that grows year by year, which reinforces the link between past and present, and that brings Curtatone to the spotlight throughout Italy.
An event that is made for citizens, to make them feel part of something great, that goes beyond competition: a moment of unity, courage and hope.
