A NEW SPACE FOR SUSTAINABILITY: THE CURTATONE REUSE CENTER INAUGURATED

Reduce waste, give a second life to objects, promote virtuous and conscious behavior: with these objectives, the new Curtatone Reuse Center was inaugurated, a project designed for the good of the territory and of those who live there.

Created by the Municipal Administration in collaboration with Aprica, a company of the A2A Group, and under the patronage of the Lombardy Region, the new Center was officially opened to the public on 28 June 2025 in the presence of the Mayor Carlo Bottani, the Regional Councilor Alessandra Cappellari, the Regional Councilor Marco Carra and the President and CEO of A2A Ambiente Fulvio Roncari.

The initiative, strongly desired by the Councillor for Ecology, Heritage, Urban Planning and Public Works Cinzia Cicola, represents a concrete step towards a more circular, sustainable and supportive economy.

A place to give new life to objects
The new Reuse Center, located in Via Ateneo Pisano in Montanara di Curtatone, is a space dedicated to the provision and reuse of used but still perfectly functional goods: furniture, books, games, small appliances and much more.

Anyone can bring items in good condition that they no longer use, so that they can be picked up by those who need them or want to give them a new destination. A concrete way to reduce the amount of waste and extend the life cycle of objects.

The service will be active:
  • Until September: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8.30 to 12.30 and from 15.00 to 18.00
  • October to April: same days from 8.30 to 12.30 and from 14.00 to 17.00

  • Also online: the portal www.ilcentrodelriuso.it is born
To make reuse even more accessible, the Municipality has also activated a dedicated digital portal: www.ilcentrodelriuso.it, developed and managed by the social cooperative Il Gelso.

Through this platform, every citizen will be able to consult the available items in real time, book them and contribute in a simple and immediate way to the circular economy, even from home.

A project that looks at the environment and the community
“This inauguration is an important and significant moment for our community - said Mayor Carlo Bottani -. It is a concrete demonstration of the commitment we are carrying out for sustainability, reuse and respect for the environment. Thanks to A2A, Aprica and the Il Gelso cooperative for their collaboration, and thanks also to the regional councillors and local administrators who intervened: their presence testifies to the value of this service not only for Curtatone, but for the entire Mantuan territory”.

Councillor Cinzia Cicola also relaunched the importance of the initiative, who emphasized that the first Reuse Center had already been launched in 2018, but that today, after the difficulties of the pandemic, “returns in a completely renewed guise: larger, more efficient, with a digital interface and new spaces. Here the objects are not waste, but resources. They can be donated, recovered, reused. And this is precisely the heart of the project: combining respect for the environment with social solidarity.”

Also important is the involvement of the associations “Nature and Solidarity” and “The Lighthouse”, which will collaborate in the management of spaces and the flows of objects, helping to strengthen the social dimension of the project.

    An opportunity for everyone
The Reuse Center represents a free service accessible to all citizens, designed to generate environmental and social value, reduce ecological impact and support families and people in difficulty.

As Fulvio Roncari, President and CEO of A2A Ambiente, emphasized, “this center is a concrete example of how the circular economy can be put at the service of territories, through tangible and engaging actions. We will continue to invest in projects that combine innovation, responsibility and participation.”

The Reuse Center is much more than a service: it is a new way of experiencing our relationship with things, with the environment and with others. Because taking care of the world starts right here, from what we decide not to waste.
