Mariangela Cappa’s exhibition is drawing to a close

This is the last weekend to visit the solo exhibition by the master Madonnara artist Mariangela Cappa at the Madonnari Museum in Curtatone, curated by the museum’s director, Paola Artoni, and staged by the Madonnari artists Andrea Grespi and Claudio Pirisi.
The exhibition, which is free to enter, is open on Friday 31 July from 4 pm to 6 pm, and on Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August from 10 am to 12 noon and from 4 pm to 6 pm. It brings together a series of the artist’s works, some from the museum’s collection and others from her studio, including several precious pieces never before exhibited.

The exhibition begins with a Raphael-style Madonna that Cappa painted as a young girl, whilst a pupil of Maestro Flavio Sirio, and unfolds through a selection of paintings and souvenir photographs that chronicle a career spanning more than thirty years. On display are not only a number of original sketches, created by the artist as the gold medallist among the Masters and which have become the symbolic image of the National Gathering of Madonnari in Grazie, but also a series of monochrome paintings inspired by statuary and some powerful portraits executed in pastel.
 

Mariangela Cappa, originally from Guidizzolo, lives and works in Ceresara. After completing her upper secondary qualification in applied arts, specialising in painting, she qualified as a conservator and restorer of works of art at the Santa Paola Institutes in Mantua.

Since 1990, she has been a leading figure at the Grazie Madonnari Festival, where she has won the gold medal three times in the Master Madonnari category (2007, 2011 and 2016). During the pandemic, she took part in the project ‘I Madonnari nel cuore di Grazie – Ex voto 2020’ and, to mark the 2025 Jubilee, in the collective work ‘Ianua Coeli’. She has participated in numerous madonnara art festivals, including at an international level. Her artistic work, as a madonnara and decorator, is combined with a passion for teaching.
