“ON THE ROAD”: AN EDUCATIONAL PROJECT FOR ROAD SAFETY IN CURTATONE

In Curtatone, the “On the Road” project made its debut in the province of Mantua, carrying a strong and clear message of prevention and road safety. This educational project saw the enthusiastic participation of two young people, Mattia (15 years old) and Veronica (17), who undertook a unique experience, supporting the Local Police in a training course that transformed them into real witnesses of change.

The project, which took place from 12 to 14 October, was an extraordinary opportunity for children to get in touch with the daily reality of law enforcement, to see with their own eyes the fight against road accidents, a scourge that mainly affects young people, and to become aware of how essential it is to act responsibly on the streets.

The format, which took hold in Bergamo and is now expanding in the province of Mantua, was born with a clear objective: to educate young people to understand road risks, and then know how to avoid them and deal with them with awareness. In this context, Mattia and Veronica were not just spectators, but real protagonists. They experienced a day of intensive training, followed by field activities, where they participated in road checks, confronting the real risks that law enforcement agencies face every day.

The streets of Curtatone, from 16.00 to 22.00, have been monitored with particular attention, with activities aimed at raising awareness of road safety in the entire community. The presence of young people from Curtatone next to Local Police officers had a strong impact, making everyone understand the importance of responsible driving and education to respect the rules.

Mattia and Veronica have learned not only to know the risk, but also to become positive role models for their peers. During the activities, they had the opportunity to use the breathalyzer, to experience the reality of the controls up close and to answer crucial questions about the behavior to take in case of emergencies. This type of practical training is what makes the “On the Road” project so powerful: it allows children to get in touch with the reality of road safety, transforming them into more aware citizens ready to intervene, when necessary.

The value of the project extends far beyond individual experience. In fact, the initiative has the potential to transform entire communities, educating new generations to take care of each other. The goal is not only to raise awareness among participants, but to spread the message to all citizens. In this sense, Mattia and Veronica, during the project, also played the role of ambassadors of change, raising awareness among their fellow citizens about the correct use of the “Where Are U” app and the Single European Number 112, tools that can really make a difference in emergency situations.

Mattia and Veronica, at the end of the day, were no longer just kids from Curtatone, but conscious young citizens, ready to take on the road with a new perspective.

The “On The Road” project does not stop at Curtatone: it is only the beginning of a journey that wants to educate, raise awareness and save lives. A project that brings value, that invests in the future of young people, and that, thanks to the commitment of local institutions, becomes a point of reference for everyone's safety. Every step these kids take, every experience they have, is a seed that grows, nurturing a culture of responsibility and prevention.

Curtatone has chosen to be part of this important initiative, not only for its young people, but for the entire community. It is an investment in the future, a commitment that enriches the lives of young people today, and of tomorrow's generations.
