In 2015, the City of Curtatone launched an initiative that goes far beyond simply protecting the environment: a journey to discover and protect the monumental trees of our territory. With a far-sighted vision, the municipal administration has instructed the Environment Office to survey and collect Curtatone's plant memory, not only to preserve our past, but to enrich our future. Every tree, every row of trees, is a silent testimony to the history of this land, a heritage that tells of generations that have seen these wonderful plants grow and flourish.
The census was a choral work, the result of an open dialogue with the community. Citizens, schools, associations, local authorities, all have helped to highlight and enhance the most significant trees, those that deserve to be preserved and handed down. This process was not only technical, but it was an encounter with the deepest roots of our identity. The active participation of citizens, their love for nature and their commitment have made this extraordinary recognition possible.
In 2018, the Lombardy Region confirmed the relevance of this work, including 4 of the trees proposed by the City of Curtatone in the “List of Monumental Trees of Italy”, an honor that only a few territories can claim. Curtatone, together with Marmirolo, has become part of this national list, with the recognition that every citizen can feel proud to belong to a community that preserves and enhances its natural heritage.
But the journey does not stop there: a fifth tree is coming soon, a black poplar tree located in Via Pari, which will soon be added to this prestigious list. Every plant, every tree that becomes part of this national heritage is not only a symbol of beauty, but also a collective commitment to the protection and preservation of the environment.
This initiative is not only for those who live today in Curtatone, but for all future generations. Every monumental tree is a link with history, a breath of life that continues to bear fruit, oxygen, beauty and culture. It is a gift that our territory has given to its citizens, but that will continue to live and flourish for those who come after us.
The publication of acts in the praetorian register is not only a bureaucratic obligation, but a way to make everyone participate in the value of these trees, their history and the importance they have for our municipality. It is an opportunity for all of us to take care of what has been given to us, to protect and value an asset that is everyone's heritage.
Curtatone, with his love for nature, invites us to be guardians of a deep bond with our territory. Together, we can continue to celebrate the beauty of our monumental trees, because their strength is also ours.
